Do you remember your first love? This play will bring it vividly back, and your own memories will add spice to an already brilliant piece of theatre. Its writer Benedict Lombe won the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for Playwriting for her debut play Lava. The drama is directed by Evening Standard Theatre Award winning Lynette Linton, who gave us Blues for an Alabama Sky and August in England. And the stars are Heather Agyepong (School Girls; or, The African Mean Girls Play) and Tosin Cole (Supacell, BBC TV’s Doctor Who). Together the actors weave a beautifully intoxicating story about the enduring power of young love, something everyone who’s ever fallen in love can relate to.
The creative team includes set and costume design by Alex Berry, lighting design by Neil Austin, sound design by Tony Gayle, composition by Xana, and movement and intimacy direction by Shelley Maxwell. Production dramaturg Deirdre O’Halloran and voice coach Joel Trill are joined by Heather Basten, who cast the production. A pared-back set and inspiring lighting completes the picture. So good it’s bound to be a sell-out, don’t miss this mesmerising romance from a fresh UK writer to watch.
